Xbox Finally Has Its Own Platinum Trophy: Mythic Achievements

Xbox players have asked for this feature for well over a decade, and it just started rolling out. Mythic Achievements, Microsoft’s answer to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, went live for Xbox Insiders on September 29 — and for some players, the reward is already waiting in their profile without them lifting a finger.

How You Actually Earn One

A Mythic Achievement unlocks once you’ve completed every original Achievement in a game’s base release. Critically, Achievements added later through paid DLC or free content updates don’t count toward the requirement — only the Achievements that shipped with the game on day one. Xbox has labeled these later additions “add-on” in the Achievement list, so it’s immediately clear which ones matter for Mythic status and which don’t. Once you’ve earned it, Xbox says Mythic status is permanent and stays with you even if the game later adds new Achievements.

Retroactive, Including Xbox 360 Games

You don’t need to replay anything you’ve already finished. Xbox confirmed Mythic status has already been applied retroactively to eligible games players completed in the past, including titles from the Xbox 360 era. That means some Insiders logging in for the first time since the rollout could open their profile and immediately find several Mythic Achievements already sitting there, years after they actually did the work.

A New Tab to Track Everything

Xbox profiles are getting a new Games tab specifically built around this feature, showing total Gamerscore, overall Achievement count, and Mythic Achievements earned in one place. Mythic Achievements display with a distinct heroic frame in your Achievement history, making them easy to spot at a glance. For games you haven’t completed yet, a progress bar now tracks exactly how close you are to Mythic status, and the Achievement list can be filtered to show only the original, Mythic-eligible Achievements — hiding DLC additions that don’t count toward the goal. Similar progress details also appear in the Xbox Guide and on individual Achievement detail screens.

When Everyone Else Gets It

For now, Mythic Achievements are exclusive to Xbox Insiders on console and Windows PC. Xbox has explicitly framed the Insider rollout as a testing phase meant to gather feedback before any wider release, and the company has not announced a timeline for when the feature reaches the general Xbox population. If you want early access, joining the free Xbox Insider Program through the Xbox Insider Hub app is the only way in right now.

Bottom Line

This is one of the most consistently requested Xbox features since the achievement system itself launched on the 360, and the retroactive rollout is a genuinely player-friendly touch — nobody has to grind through old games again to claim credit for work they already did. The bigger question now is simply timing: how long Microsoft keeps this in Insider testing before flipping the switch for everyone else.

FAQ

How do I get access to Mythic Achievements right now?

You need to join the Xbox Insider Program through the free Xbox Insider Hub app. Mythic Achievements are not yet available to players outside the Insider program.

Will I lose Mythic status if a game adds new Achievements later?

No. Xbox says once you’ve earned Mythic status, it’s permanent, even if the game is later updated with additional Achievements.
