Forza Horizon 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 on January 26, 2027, but that is later than Playground Games originally promised. The open-world racer launched on Xbox and PC on May 19, and the studio said in a September 7 update that it was “releasing on PS5 later this year.” Now there is a 2027 date, a first expansion to go with it, and pre-orders are open.
Dates, Editions, and Price
Playground Games announced the date on October 8. Three editions can be pre-ordered on the PlayStation Store, and physical discs will be available from select retailers:
- Standard: the base game, releasing January 26
- Deluxe: adds a Welcome Pack and Car Pack, releasing January 26
- Premium ($119.99): five days of early access starting January 21, and it includes the first expansion

What the PS5 Version Offers
Panic Button, the studio that also handled the Forza Horizon 5 port, built the PlayStation version with Playground Games and Turn 10. It offers a 4K 30 FPS Quality mode and a 60 FPS Performance mode, plus cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. User-generated content works across platforms too. The game is set in Japan and includes more than 550 cars, counting ones added since launch.
The First Expansion and Free Update
The first Premium Expansion launches January 21 on all platforms, so PS5 Premium owners can play it on day one alongside Xbox and PC players. A free content update for every player arrives the same day, and a second DLC is planned for later in 2027. Playground Games has not shared details of the first expansion yet and says more is coming closer to release.
Why It Slipped, and Why It Matters
Playground had said PS5 players would get the game in 2026, so January is a small delay, and it lands amid some fan frustration over how little the studio has communicated about the game. The release also fits a bigger shift at Xbox, where first-party games keep showing up on PlayStation. This Week in Videogames notes that Forza Horizon 6, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and the Fable reboot all remain committed to PS5. Playground Games sits at the center of Xbox’s recent reorganization too, which we covered in our breakdown of the Xbox restructuring.
Bottom Line
If you play on PlayStation and have been waiting, mark January 26, or January 21 if you want early access and the expansion. The cost of the wait is a couple of months compared with what Playground promised, not a missing game: this is a full port with cross-save, so you can start on Xbox or PC and carry progress over. The one thing to watch is the expansion, which Playground says it will detail closer to release.
